PRECISION IN THE WATER

Almost a century improving the record of every historical landmark in the pools.

In swimming, every second makes a difference. A thousandth can mark a historical milestone or turn a success into a failure. For this reason, the accuracy of timekeeping in water has been one of the great challenges of watchmaking and in this field, the Omega brand has become a reference.

The relationship between the Swiss firm and swimming begins in 1932, when at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the Olympic Committee proposes that a single brand take over the timing of all sports disciplines, both land and of water Omega was chosen and faced the challenge with just one watchmaker and 30 chronographs.

The spirit of technical improvement and the ambition of the brand has been increasing in each and every edition, constantly achieving new technical feats. One of the great advances was in 1967 when it incorporated panels located at the end of each lane that allowed swimmers to stop the clock themselves. The Touchpads have drastically improved the accuracy of the results.

The great precision achieved by Omega in swimming pool timing at the Olympic Games led FINA, the International Swimming Federation, to ask the brand to also take on the challenge of measuring time at the World Swimming Championships. This happened in 1973, and 40 years later Omega is still in charge of this difficult task.

A wide variety of high-precision devices goes with the best swimmers and jumpers on the planet. Inspiring figures of the stature of Michael Phelps, Chad Le Clos, Caeleb Dressel, and Alexander Popov, among others, have trusted Omega as a brand to record their legendary milestones.
